AER Releases Bulletin on Draft Methane Emissions Reduction Regulations

AER Releases Bulletin on Draft Methane Emissions Reduction Regulations

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) released Bulletin 2018-09, seeking public feedback on draft methane emissions reduction requirements.

The bulletin addresses proposed changes to both Directive 060: Upstream Petroleum Industry Flaring, Incinerating, and Venting and Directive 017: Measurement Requirements for Oil and Gas Operations and can be read in its entirety at https://www.aer.ca/regulating-development/rules-and-directives/bulletins/bulletin-2018-09.  Note that feedback will be accepted until May 28, 2018.

The draft requirements were developed to support the Government of Alberta in reaching its target within the Climate Leadership Plan to reduce methane emissions by 45 per cent by 2025 (relative to 2014 levels).
